We are committed to eliminating euthanasia of healthy and treatable pets in Maricopa County. MCACC has prevented the euthanasia of healthy pets since October 1, 2005. MCACC has saved nearly 40% of treatable pets from euthanasia through its New Hope and Foster Care programs. However, there are still thousands of additional pets euthanized in Maricopa County each year.
Our progress
The Uno por Uno program has diversified since inception. Initially, Uno por Uno conducted a two month campaign targeting one zip code area each year. Uno por Uno now provides small focused campaigns to impact twelve zip code areas each year. MCACC identifies these at-risk areas as those where low licensing compliance, large number of dog bites, and frequent shelter impoundments are indicators of the need to increase services. MCACC’s Uno por Uno program “saturates” these areas, one square mile at a time, with increased outreach, spay/neuter, vaccination, enforcement and education efforts so that licensing compliance is increased while dog bites and impoundments are reduced.

Uno por Uno is an innovative program
Uno por Uno helps pets, families and neighborhoods, one by one. Currently, euthanasia is the sad reality for many of the animals rescued in Maricopa County. As such, Maricopa County Animal Care & Control (MCACC) is taking a more proactive and creative approach to safeguard public health and safety and save the lives of many pets.

Uno por Uno is making a difference
This creative program focuses on “at risk” areas to increase licensing, reduce bites and increase spay/neuter. MCACC’s goal is to increase efforts to safeguard public health and safety and minimize the negative impact that irresponsible pet ownership has on a community. In order to change the culture of pet ownership in Maricopa County, it has become critical to educate pet owners about responsible pet ownership, spaying and neutering, the leash law, the importance of pet vaccinations, and pet licensing. MCACC has endeavored to combine all aspects of need, desire, and mandate in the Uno por Uno program. This community service program will continue to have a positive impact on the communities served with your support.
